What is a Brake Wheel Cylinder?

The brake wheel cylinder is a critical component of drum brake systems. It converts hydraulic pressure from the brake master cylinder into mechanical force, pushing the brake shoes outward against the drum to generate braking friction.

Structure of the Brake Wheel Cylinder

Brake Wheel Cylinder
Part Name (English) Function Description (English)
Cylinder Body Typically mounted on the brake backing plate, housing the pistons and seals.
Piston Made of aluminum alloy; pushes brake shoes outward under hydraulic pressure.
Rubber Piston Cup Cup seals facing inward; ensures tight sealing of hydraulic system.
Return Spring Pressed against the piston to assist in return motion after braking.
Dust Boot Prevents dust and debris from entering, protecting internal parts.
Bleeder Screw Located on the top of the cylinder for air bleeding from the hydraulic system.
Push Pin / Shoe Contact Pad Mounted at the piston end to directly transfer force to the brake shoe.

Common Types

We offer three major types of brake wheel cylinders to suit various drum brake structures:
High-resistance materials: heat-resistant, oil-resistant, and aging-resistant
recision-molded for perfect fit with piston and cylinder bore
Over 400,000 simulated brake cycles—far exceeding industry standards
Double sealing tests: air-tightness and vacuum performance

Brake Wheel Cylinder Working Principle

01

Braking status

Hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder pushes the pistons outward, forcing the brake shoes against the drum to create braking force.
02

Release the brake state

When the brake pedal is released, hydraulic pressure drops and return springs on the shoes push the pistons back to rest position.

About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

Are brake wheel cylinders prone to damage?

They can fail due to fluid leakage, piston jamming, or soft brake feel. Regular inspection and maintenance are recommended.

Can I replace only the rubber seals?

You can, but we recommend checking for wear on the piston and cylinder body and replacing the entire unit if necessary.

Do you offer samples?

Yes, we provide free samples and full technical support. Contact us for details.
